Proposed interprovincial bridge at Kettle Island back on the table

A sixth bridge across the Ottawa River has long been under consideration to reroute truck traffic that drives through downtown Ottawa on its way to and from the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge.

Some 15 years ago, a dozen east end community associations, including the RHPOA, banded together in objection to a bridge at the proposed Kettle Island location, for reasons including but not limited to negative impacts on the community and residential neighbourhoods, the environment, the Montfort Hospital – and that a bridge at this location would not solve the problem of truck traffic in downtown Ottawa.

Our MP and MPP at the time were both onside in their objection.

Now, a new bridge at Kettle Island is back on the table. Our MP and Councillor have voiced their objections to the currently proposed bridge.  (see Related Reading below).

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is currently conducting its first phase of public consultations until July 10, 2025. Your feedback will play a key role.
