NCC Closes Section of Parkway to Motorized Traffic in Weekend Pilot Project
UPDATE : Weekend Parkway Closures Extended to September 7
Since May 16, the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway has been closed to motor vehicles on weekends from 8 am to 4 pm, between the Aviation Parkway and St. Joseph Boulevard. The closures were initially scheduled to conclude on May 31. After an initial extension to June 28, the NCC has announced a further extension of the weekend Parkway closures to September 7.
The closures are part of a National Capital Commission (NCC) project to provide local residents with a greater opportunity to get outdoors and exercise while practising safe physical distancing.
If you access this pilot project, the NCC welcomes your feedback via this quick survey on the NCC website.
The NCC encourages those taking advantage of the Parkway closures to get there on foot or by bike. (The Blair Road Boat Launch and parking lot remain closed until further notice.)
The Parkways should be used as the NCC’s multi-use pathways are used, with the yellow centre line delineating direction.
All users should must follow basic safety rules, including:
- Keep to the right
- Faster traffic passes on the left
- Ring bell or call out when passing
Residents of all ages have been enjoying this weekend pilot project, which we are pleased to see extended throughout the summer.
